Old rivalries don’t always die. In some cases they fester and erupt decades later. These 73 year old football rivals left onlookers gasping in shock when they erupted in a fist (and cane) fight nearly 50 years after the bad blood began.
According to spots site TheCheapSeats, the two men are CFL (Canadian Football League) rivals Joe Kapp of the BC Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cat Angelo Mosca. Both were brought together at a luncheon to discuss a controversial play at a 1963 game. Turns out, at the game, Mosca, the guy who’s on the right side during the brawl, made a questionable hit at Kapp’s teammate.
When the introductions started, there was a lighthearted fanning of the flames, and Kapp tries to hand Mosca a flower as a peace offering. Mosca says ‘shove it up your ass,’ and Kapp then tries to either tuck the flower on his shirt, or pester him with it a bit… hard to tell. Mosca shoves Kapp, Kapp then swats him with the flowers, and Mosca then starts swinging his cane at him. From there, all bets are off, and Mosca, clearly the stronger of the two, lays into him. As the audience gasps, the fisticuffs ensue, and eventually Mosca falls down to the floor, and Kapp shouts “Sportsmanship!” A sad moment, indeed.
Even after the fight is dissolved, the awkwardness continues as the two sit on the stage for another five minutes, and the two make some additional remarks.
Just goes to show that just because you’re almost 80 years old, doesn’t mean that you’ve grown up.
