Madonna To Perform at Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show

In a brief moment of “whaaa?!?”, it has just been announced that Madonna will be the halftime act at Super Bowl XLVI.

NBC Sports officially announced the decision during tonight’s Sunday Night Football game between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions.  Sources say that the performance will be imagined by Cirque Du Soleil and Jamie King.

Not really sure what to think of this, since Madonna isn’t really on the top of anyone’s list at the moment.  It does fall into order, however, with the most recent performers, which seem like the perfect playlist of classic, safe rockers: The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, and Paul McCartney.  (Damn you, Janet and Justin, for ruining all the fun for us!)

The real question is what do YOU think?  Fun nostalgia, or safe, boring bet?  (Or would you rather just watch the Celebrity Death Match, instead?)
