The ad, which features Blige singing soulfully about chicken wraps, was criticized by some members of the black community, who claimed the ad played on stereotypes. One website called it “buffoonery.”
David Beckham, Jay Leno, Steven Tyler and Salma Hayek are among the other celebrities fronting ads for the fast food chain, which is trying to revamp its image after a few years of cryptic male oriented ads that resulted in dismal sales.
Burger King is actually citing music licensing issues, not criticism of the ad, for the decision to pull it, assuring that in fact they plan to the spot back on the air soon.
