Natalie Portman’s Dad Writing Pregnancy Thriller…Ironic at All?

Natalie Portman’s father, Dr. Avner Hershlag, has a little side project going at the moment that may seem like it should star his daughter: a self-published novel titled ‘Misconception.’

According to the New York Observer, the book is a “reproductive thriller” that started off as a little side project, yet after showing it to friends (probably including his famous daughter), Dr. Hershlag was encouraged to shop it to publishers.  The synopsis goes:

“When Dr. Anya Krim, the first lady’s fertility specialist, delivers a grossly deformed baby of undetermined sex, she tries to figure out how the child was conceived. But, before she is able to determine the baby’s origin, she diagnoses a pregnancy in Megan, a senator’s daughter, who has been in a coma for two years.”

Interesting…

Though the book launched in early 2010 through iUniverse, Hershlag is now shopping the medical thriller to major publishing houses.  And just in case you thought he didn’t know what he was talking about, know that Dr. Hershlag is the Director of Donor Egg Program, Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD), and Laboratory Services and North Shore LIJ Hospital in Long Island.

Irony much?
