After a chaotic Monday night on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars that found pro castmember Maksim Chmerkovskiy sounding off on the judges, it came close to being a close race for elimination. But in the end, it was Chaz Bono who ended up leaving the competition show.

Bono was gracious as he and partner Lacey Schwimmer were sent off.

“I took so much away from this…This was an amazing journey that really pushed me and showed me that I could do so much more than I ever thought I could… I came on this show because I wanted to show America a different kind of man. I dedicate everything I did to all the people out there like me, especially the kids and teens who are struggling. You can have a wonderful, great life and be successful and happy.”

Bono caused a stir when cast on the show, as the first transgendered person to join the series. His mother Cher actively campaigned for her son, both on Twitter and through public appearances in the audience on  the show.

Shortly after the episode, Cher tweeted: I Have Got 2Hold my TEMPER ! MY Tears R OK ! Congratulations Chaz I’m SO PROUD OF U ! This was YOUR Quest…& u Followed your Star

The previous episode had viewers wondering if Maksim’s comments against the judges might result in low voter support for his partner Hope Solo, but they continued on for another week of competition.
