It is a franchise than has spanned almost five decades.  And now, “Doctor Who” will have his own movie, directed by none other than HARRY POTTER director David Yates.

According to Variety, Yates is teaming up with BBC to turn the sci-fi series into a franchise in theaters, and the director says that work has already started:

“We’re looking at writers now. We’re going to spend two to three years to get it right. It needs quite a radical transformation to take it into the bigger arena…The notion of the time-traveling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time.”

It is being said that the studios are going to make sure they take three to four years to do the film right.  Due to the Doctor’s appearance changing capabilities, there is no word (and no idea) who could possible be the next doctor.
